the gastric sleeve surgery

I'm 15, almost 16 I am wondering has anyone had experience with the gastric sleeve surgery? I was just diagnosed with diabetes and I want to get rid of them, I feel the surgery would be the best option for me. Any thoughts? Just so others are aware I have not tried diets because I eat what my parents cook.

Well first off, unless you are going to pay for your surgery yourself, insurances and doctors are going to encourage you to try diets and lifestyle changes first to loose weight. Because you can’t just eat whatever you want to after the surgery. You have to change your eating habits still.

You're only 15 years old you should not be thinking about surgery. I don't mean to be harsh but a surgery like that has life long implications that should not be taken lightly. Go and visit your doctor get some advice on healthy eating and exercise more. Just because your parents buy junk you don't have to eat it. Have a honest chat with them and say you are worried about your weight and would like more input on what food you eat. Good luck

try using salad.plate at meals...use smaller fork...drink water with meals or snacks it really will help..first you have set your mind to it..thinking positive is major must..good thinking create good out come

My suggestion to you is talk to your parents and doctor. You are very young for those things.
Ask your parents to feed you healthier. I mean, your overall health and well being depends on a healthier lifestyle and I'm not sure what parent wouldnt support that 🤷‍♀️
Eat healthier and be more active.
A quick fix surgery wont work either if you dont intend to change you overall lifestyle as well.
You are too young to be thinking surgery already.

it sounds like you do need to talk to your parents and see how they can help you. Don’t do surgery, it’s not the end for you. But as someone who’s been living independently from parents for two years now, I have some advice: learn to cook now so you’ll be able to look after yourself better, and don’t necessarily follow exactly in your parents footsteps in terms of portions and types of food.

If you need someone to talk to, you can always PM me.
People are talking about taking responsibility and not blaming your parents but actually it’s hard when, like me, you come from a family that encourage you to finish the whole plate, to not be wasteful, who refuse to buy more expensive healthier options because they don’t have the money or because they don’t understand it can be inexpensive to be healthy if you do it right. It’s not on you to change your whole family’s lifestyle, but you can try and talk to them about how to help you.

Also, most weight loss surgeries won’t be even approved until you try exercise and diet. I know some even require you to lose weight before the surgery. In your case, definitely try diet and exercise change. Although diabetes might not go away even with diet changes.

You are old enough to know what to put in your mouth?
Surgery can cause your hair to fall out and you will never eat a real meal again
That's a big thing. It's the very last option to stop you dying. Not the first option when you haven't tried. Don't even need to vary your eating st first- just start adding your excercise
Start walking an hour every day

You are in control of how much you eat. Eat smaller portions, drink lots of water and exercise

Are your parents overweight? Maybe it could be a goal you work on as a family with some medical support. With their support you will find the weight loss a lot easier.

If they’re not onboard will they allow you to cook for yourself? They’re are a lot of sites that can assist you with healthy recipes. Can you get suport from a councillor or nurse at school? Just know you are worth this change and you will feel so much better.

Surgery requirements are quite involved. Most insurances require you to have 6 months documented exercise and nutrition adherence. WLS will not solve all your problems. You need to adopt healthy eating habits along with consistent physical activity. The issues of your parents cooking your meals will be there. Surgery is so drastic and has so many side effects and potential risks. You really need to try to lose with physical trainer and nutritionist first

Try starting with smaller portions and drinking more water. Walk for 30 mins everyday, and I don't mean your normal activities actually go out to walk for fitness. Don't eat junk food. If your parents are not helping you with your eating habits suggest you go shopping with them and buy some clean raw foods for when they are eating junk. Don't drink soft drink, at all!

Surgery is a weight loss "tool" NOT a solution...you have to change your eating/ drinking habits for life first...decide you are in control of what you are going to eat...you can surely control the amounts and times you are eating...look into counting calories and exercising..even 5 minutes at a time 4-5 times a day ;) and we are here to cheer you on!! You can do this! Without surgery! Have faith in yourself! Tap into your will power. What helped me first off..i quit eating bread..quit drinking pop only drink two cups of coffee and the rest of the day water.. I also go to bed earlier so i quit eating after 7 pm.

These weight loss surgeries have a big downside. My husband had several surgeries due to complications over the years. You still must change your lifestyle or you gain the weight back. There are no short cuts to weight loss; you are way too young to resort to surgery. Hope you can work it out with your parents. Your life is at risk.

My best friend passed away right after having this surgery and I have another friend that had it and has to have surgery alot because of complications from the surgery. Yes she lost alot of weight but she went from being a beautiful 40 year old woman to looking like she's 80. She's tried gaining some back because she lost too much but can't.

Teach your parents. Go food shopping with them. Read labels. Watch out for bad fats like trans fats and sugars especially high fructose corn syrup . Cut out snacking on junk. Eat real wholesome food . You'll feel better and will have more energy!! Good luck. You can do this!

Not yet. You have to be at least 18 to get it done. Do as much as you can do to help yourself. I was an overweight kid too and into adulthood. It was just recently I took half of that baggage off. You can do it. You have my support!

Please do not use Surgery as an option! There are many alternatives and the outcome to surgery? Usually not good! Most go back to their WOE. In time and gain most back..Try Keto or some products I have found to help? Can’t mention them here.
