grocery shopping

i went grocery shopping.. i need to vent. i spent nearly 150 in groceries shopping for healthy stuff. i get home put my stuff away and its like... what did i buy? wheres the food?... why is it you can pay 150 in healthy food and leave a store with 5-6 bags of groceries vs a shopping cart FULL of stuff if you buy unhealthy? its not right. its the same shit at restraunts. you can buy a full large meal at mcdonalds for 7-8 dollars or pay the same thing for a small salad and a bottle of water.  something is just not right here. no wonder people are overweight. i wanted to buy some high protein healthy bars from the weight watchers/diet area in the store.. it was nearly 8 dollars for a small box.

Eating healthy is only expensive if you buy boxed foods that are promoted as weight loss foods but are really full of sugar and other processed crap. Don’t eat out of boxes. Fresh fruits and vegetables aren’t expensive and lean meats like chicken are cheap too and you get a lot for your money. I eat mostly healthy and I don’t spend much on groceries. I lost weight and saved money just by switching what I buy. I do agree about restaurants. I just don’t hardly eat out because it’s a waste of money or if I do I just grab a subway sandwich.

Vegetables and fruits are not really that expensive. Water isn’t that expensive either. Idk what else you’re getting that’s expensive but I can get away spending $50 or less getting healthy food. People are unhealthy because THEY CHOOSE to eat unhealthy. If you go to McDonald’s and choose an unhealthy option when there’s a healthier option of the same price then that’s on you

Just be careful because folks that don’t have a lot of money who want to be healthy struggle. Not everyone has the same amount of money to buy healthy food or even have good access to grocery stores - food deserts. So don’t blame people this is supposed to be a supportive group, and not everyone knows how to eat and shop for healthy products it’s a learning process For many.

You don’t need protein bars you can get all the protein you need from eggs, turkey, certain veggies. It’s everywhere. Don’t let the marketing gimmicks fool you. Healthy eating isn’t much more expensive if done right. You need to just eat clean rather than eating boxed food or frozen junk. Fresh fruits and veggies are more than reasonable.
99 cent or Dollar stores. I just put blueberries in my cereal from the 99 cent store. Same size box at my Trader Joe's is 3.99.
Please check them out, we get most everything there except meat, poultry etc.

Healthy isn't as expensive as you think, since in general you eat less of it to feel full. Meats are the most expensive healthy items you can get, and those last a while if you portion correctly. Buying the "healthy" food in the isles that are highly processed is where you're spending the bulk of your money from what I would guess. Stick to the outer edges of the store

Meal prep. Ground beef on sale? Make a bunch of chilli and freeze it. Fruits on sale? You can freeze peeled bananas and fruits for smoothies. Any time something healthy is on sale, stock up. All meat is expensive one week? Make it vegetarian week 😀 compare all the flyers of the local grocery stores, shop at mutiple ones that are nearby if you need to. You’ll save a lot! Also always go in with a list, that helps me a lot and stops me from buying unnecessary things. Planning our dinners a week ahead also helped me from buying random crap.

Do you have a bulk store or isle? Like dry goods. You bring in your own jars and fill them with things like rice and lentals, beans. You end up saving SO much money and it’s much better for the environment because you’re not buying packaging.
You get your jars weighed at the service desk before you fill them, that way you don’t pay for your jar weight.

It IS possible to eat cheaply and healthy. Eggs are a great source of cheap protein. A protein shake is a meal for us and most are under $1.50 a serving. Aldi has great prices on dairy and produce. And my favorite tip from a good friend - when buying meat, don't buy what you want, buy what's on sale :)

kale is cheap AF, broccoli is cheap AF, rice is pretty cheap (buy brown in bulk), buy canned fish on sale (it's good for you) or buy canned/frozen veggies, lentils are cheap AF, check the flyers, go to discount grocery stores (google one in your area)

Have you heard of Ibotta? I use it to help get some of my money back. You just scan what you bought and get coupons for it. The money just adds up. I have a friend who got $600 back but he went out and bought all the coupons all the time. For me that’s too much. Some of those coupons are trying to get people to try new products and you may get a dollar back but spend $5 on something small.
What I personally use it for is the items I’m already buying. They have some items on there that are brandless. Meaning .25 back on a gallon of milk, no matter what brand you buy. .75 back on a bag of carrots, any brand. :)
I’ve made about $200 back. I use that money to buy myself something nice, like my band new blender .

It's the difference between processed "healthy" food and actual healthy food, real fruit, veggies, ingredients aren't too expensive, the prepackaged, processed "healthy" stuff is way more expensive, and probably not that good for you anyways.

Filler foods. Processing turns 10% natural ingredients and 90% chemicals and fillers into everything you eat now. Which, with all the sugars and lack of real nutrient rich sustenance, leads to us going back to the fridge and cupboards for more and more. So you’ll buy 2 boxes of cereal for the price of 1. It’ll taste better and be worse for you. It’ll seem like you have eaten more when really you haven’t given yourself half the nutrients as the single box. Not to mention however many dyes and who knows what you’re eating double of!

I don’t know what you bought, but if you buy in bulk, such as grains and frozen veggies, then you can actually save quite a bit than if you eat meats and cheeses. But, think of it this way : what you pay for healthy meals, you don’t have to pay for doctors’ appointments, medications, lab tests and what not!

We managed to get at least 10 bags of healthy food here. But we had lettuce, cauliflower, vegetables, fruits and stuff for under $2. It is harvest season here in NB and it means lots of fruit/veg. The rest is like bulk chickpeas, bread, cereal, almond milk (it was only $3 today). It depends where/how you shop though

Do you REALLY want to know why healthy food is more expensive? This is the reality most don't realize, it's a sad truth but its because the regular food we buy, we eat and are used too is NOT food. Its food like products that is man made in a lab made from cheap mnan made products and its made to be eatible and make profits, unfortunately it also kills you And the reason real food is considered expensive is because we as a society DONT grow our food or have live stock to take care off so we don't realize the work, time and effort it takes to grow a apple. What is really expensive is the side affects of eating cheap food in the longrun.

Buy a lot of lentils, barley, split peas etc...I use these to bulk my veg soups up or if I do beef casserole...they are cheap as, low fat and lower carbs then other choices....
Dont buy pre packaged "diet" foods..they're expensive and mostly all lies

you can eat healthy for cheap. Don't buy a ton of things. create a meal plan so you know what you NEED. I lost 110 pounds and I eat about 2000-3000 cals every day for about 60$ a week
I'm on a tight budget too. I stick to protein like greek yogurt, meat and I dont snack much i eat maybe pretzels even chips and salsa. But I still spend way more :( its hard when you live one one income

if you stay away from the packaged foods, you will save so much money. eating healthy really is the least expensive way to go. Fresh and frozen veggies and berries. Water is free. bagged salads are super cheap and easy. Bags of beans are super cheap too- so many meals from 1 bag. Overeating and over-desiring when we are ignoring and avoiding our feelings is what is expensive...

I did make a mistake and bought a chocolate bar. Haven't eaten it yet. It's better than those snack size Halloween bars though they are smaller. You can eat all the whole box if you have lost all control.
The more illness people have the more they need a dr. And pharmacy prescriptions. It keeps them running and they get so much money. I believe it was planned. Gmos, making healthy food expensive, etc
When one buys quality you pay more than the unnatural synthetic, laboratory made stuff. Its life fabric, beter quality means more expensive. Quality lasts longer healthwise in your system, eating cheap will cost more in the long run. Cheap food = Expensive meds

Your health is your wealth! Yes, to be healthy costs more. But if you eat unhealthy that costs even more in the long run. Arent you worth the additional $ for eating healthier? Will take time to adjust. Keep going!
